Creating Embellishments for Junk Journals

Be creative when using your scraps. Never throw away those little snippets of paper, fabric, and trim. Whether it's 6", 3", or a half inch, you'll find a use for them all. Layer them, sew them in strips, collage them, or put them into clusters. And here is a small tip to improve your creativity. You are most inventive and original when working with your favorite color combinations...

JUNK JOURNAL CREATIVITY

Staying inspired and creative will add originality, fun, and beauty to your junk journals. In this set, I used some purchased paper, silk floral petals, ribbon, lace, fabric snippets, old envelope, etc. Just play with some coordinating elements and see what you can come up with. Your journal will love you!

Junk Journal Embellishments Using Fabric and Paper

NEW at Icky Chic Designs

If you're a fabric lover like myself, you'll want to combine some of that with your paper ephemera when designing your junk journals. I love the combination of the two because it adds texture, dimension, and a tactile experience when viewing the finished journal.

Junk Journal Embellishments Using Index Cards and an Autumn Theme

I enjoy creating embellishments in seasonal themes throughout the year. My favorite method is to adjust my color theme for these specific items. For Autumn, I like using oranges, cream, black, greens, rust, purple, and cranberry. It's amazing how the right color perfectly suggests the seasonal feel when embellishing junk journals, scrapbooks, and art journals. And, of course, a hidden paperclip is always appropriate!

What are your favorite colors to use when embellishing your projects for Autumn?

Creating Embellishments for your Scrapbook, Junk or Art Journaling

For many, Summer is an event filled season that leaves little time for crafting. That's a good reason to focus on smaller projects that can be finished in just a few hours. If you are a scrapbook, glue book, art journal, or junk journal enthusiast, you'll love creating small elements to add to your page themes.

You don't always have enough time to work on your journal or book but there is always time to create one or two page embellishments that you can use later. I've posted a few of mine for inspiration. These are available in my Etsy Shop.

Page pockets that can double as Scripture, Prayer, or Friendship Pockets is a versatile choice. (1st photo)

Try creating several items at a time that are coordinated by color, texture, or theme. When you're working on your book or journal, you'll be glad to have the elements ready to use.
