Gifts For Her - Junk Journal LOVE!

We girls love our journals! Especially when they're an original junk journal with oodles of charm, fun, and excitement...

Some of you may ask - WHAT IS A JUNK JOURNAL? Most Junk Journals are made using a mix of vintage, used, recycled, and new materials. They are embellished with ephemera, tags, pockets, and other handmade elements.

WHAT DO YOU DO WITH A JUNK JOURNAL? They are used as everyday journals, planners, memory books, gifts, and theme/idea books.

Need a gift for a mom, daughter, granddaughter, grandmother, sister, teacher, co-worker, care giver, etc.? You can't go wrong with a beautiful, once-of-a-kind junk journal.

I'm building a new product line with these adorable journaling books. I'll be adding many more in the weeks ahead. Watch my progress at:

This journal is 8.75" x 5.75" with 24 pages - 48 sides - lots of journaling space. View at Icky Chic Designs

Junk Journal Confetti Strips - Using up scraps!

Confetti strips can be used in so many ways in your junk journals. I sew them to the outer edge of pages, position them as bellybands, and cut them up to make clusters, just to name a few.

I always keep a stash on hand by storing them in these 4 x 6 bags. (available in my Etsy shop) It's easy to make confetti. Just arrange a layer of your small scraps on your cutting mat - with a ruler and rotary cutter, cut through the layer both horizontally and vertically spacing each cut about 1/2" apart. If you want smaller confetti, make a cut diagonally, as well.

Junk Journaling with Fabric

If you love texture and the tactile experience it gives when you run your fingers across your journal page, try incorporating different fabrics in your design stage.

This double-sided page has fabric on one side and paper on the other, the best of both worlds.

Here's another sample for inspiration. It doesn't need to be perfect. It just needs to be fun...

Collaging Junk Journal Pages is Fun

Collaging is a creative path that encourages and promotes individuality. No two people will, while using the same elements, assemble the same finished collage. I think that's amazing!

The key for me is to let myself work around things I love. Windows are certainly at the top of my list. They tell a story and lead to imaginative speculation. But whatever inspires or warms your heart is what will lead to your best collage projects.

This project is a double-page junk journal insert. It's fun to make some of these when I'm in the creative zone to use later when assembling signatures for a new journal.

I leave the inside somewhat plain so that I can embellish them to
fit whatever journal they will eventually live in. I usually like to make the front the focus for my collage element for this double page.

So, what do you think? Are you ready to collage some gorgeousness for your next journal?
